Throughout the years I have usually always discovered music on my own. There are many tools and websites out there that can aid in your search for new enjoyable music. I’ll go through just some of the steps I have used. There is an unlimited amount of quality music out there just waiting for you to find it! I hope the information below helps. Also, if you have any other good search tools for me or our users, please share it! This site is all about helping each other to find the best music available!
01. The easiest and most obvious. I’ll list it anyways. GOOGLE. You hear a song in a movie? Note the composer at the end and search it in google. If you hear a song in a commercial, just google the company who produces the commercial. There a million people and sites out there that have probably already discussed the song your looking for.
02. To find artists similar to the ones you enjoy, browse the album reviews on Amazon.com. There are tons of people out there just like you who have the same tastes. Whenever I get into a new album I always go to amazon and read all the reviews. I have found a lot of helpful information and references to other artists.
Another similar too is the website SongMeanings.net. Here you can search for nearly any well known song or artist. Many of the comments here are opinions of SongMeanings, however some users give helpful information.
03. The next step in finding new artists is to check out Discogs. Here you can search the artists you like and find what other bands each individual member may be in. For example, Shirley Manson lead singer of “Garbage” previously was in a band called “Angelfish.” Discogs is the most complete listing and documentation of music on the planet, and its free. To get even more use out of the site, look up the producers who actually create the songs you like. Look at their profiles to see if they have produced any other music of any bands you have heard of. Then just search those songs on YouTube and you’ll be able to preview the entire song. Looking up the producers can be very useful in trying to find new bands you might like.
-Useful Websites-

I think you told me about that site about a year ago. I never used it, but hopefully if people see it here, they will find it useful!

I don’t know what your experience with this site is, but I’ve found Pandora.com useful for finding some great music. Unfortunately, it seems that after a while of using it, you’ll burn through all the new good stuff and get stuck in a loop of the same stuff you’ve already heard, or stuff you don’t want to hear. Hopefully they’ll keep getting new music and expanding the genres.
